STAUNTON, Va. — The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office says three people, including a minor, were arrested around midday on Saturday after shots were fired during an altercation.

In a release, Lieutenant Leslie Snyder said that deputies responded to the 800 block of Old Greenville Road just after 11 o’clock, where an underage male was armed with a knife and attempting to force his way inside a home.

According to Snyder, 19-year-old Jason Monahan came outside and fired multiple shots into the ground. He was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The boy then started fighting with deputies, and was arrested on eight charges, including four counts of assault and battery on a police officer. After he was released to his parents and taken to Augusta Health, the juvenile allegedly started another altercation with deputies trying to serve additional criminal petitions.

As a result, more charges were added and 42-year-old Leslie Martin was also arrested on two counts of obstruction of justice.
