BRIDGEWATER, Va – The Town of Bridgewater announced plans for a “sunset ceremony” to honor the two Bridgewater College officers who died during an on-campus shooting nearly a year ago.
Bridgewater Police Chief Philip Read explains the town will unveil plaques that will commemorate the lives of Bridgewater College Police Officer John Painter and Campus Safety Officer J.J. Jefferson during the ceremony at Oakdale Memorial Garden.
The ceremony will take place at 5:38 the evening of February 1st, which is the one-year anniversary of the shooting. Read said that time was selected because that is when sunset is scheduled to occur that day.
Meanwhile, the man charged in the shooting, former Bridgewater College student Alexander Wyatt Campbell, has a trial date set for April of next year.
