Talks around a revised budget for the state resumed between partisan leaders in Richmond last week as the governor is “evaluating” if he should call a special session and force lawmakers to hammer out a deal.

The General Assembly’s financial committees reportedly met behind closed doors on Thursday – nearly a month after initial negotiations sputtered out on June 27th.

Like the negotiations, Governor Glen Youngkin’s position hasn’t budged since making these comments earlier this month at the Virginia War Memorial:

Last week, the commonwealth reported an “excess resources” fund worth more than 5 billion dollars – renewing calls from the governor to pass a budget that cuts taxes while still investing in the state’s programs.
