BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The Bridgewater College softball team etched out two big wins in its doubleheader against Mary Washington on Thursday afternoon.

Final Score: (Game 1) Bridgewater 3, Mary Washington 2; (Game 2) Bridgewater 5, Mary Washington 3

Records: Bridgewater, 5-7; Mary Washington 9-3

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
• The Eagles struck first in the scoring column grabbing one run from Jazmyne Smith. She walked to start off the bottom of the second inning and took second on a ground out before McKenna Mueller drove her in on an RBI single, 1-0.

• Mary Washington immediately responded in the top of the third with two runs of its own on two hits. Emma Schieda drove in a pair of runs on a double bringing in Bridget Laychak and Aminah Shakir who each walked earlier in the frame, 2-1.

• Bridgewater made things even in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Brooklynn Fridley. From there, the game sat in a stalemate, 2-2.

• The Eagles walked it off in the bottom of the seventh inning with Fridley crossing home plate. Smith laced a ball to the third baseman who made a throwing error allowing Fridley to come home giving the Eagles the win, 3-2.

GAME STATS
• Mueller notched one hit in three at bats driving in a run. Fridley also had one RBI going 2-for-4 at the plate.

• Schieda drove in Mary Washington’s lone two runs of the day going one for four at the dish.

• Brantley Swift notched her first win of the season in the circle for the Eagles as she tossed 7.0 innings and struck out eight batters.

• Caitlyn Burch suffered her first loss in the circle for Mary Washington allowing three runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings of work.

Game Two
• Mary Washington put themselves on the board first in game two with all three runs coming in the fifth inning. Brigid Ward got things started for UMW driving in Rayna Lloyd on a double. Aminah Shakir stroked an RBI single to score Danneker, while Mary Washington’s final run of the game came on an error from BC that allowed Ward to advance home.

• The Eagles answered with three runs of their own starting with a run scored by Molly Ecroyd who tagged up on a sacrifice fly to right field from Kathryn Thomas. Fridley followed up with an RBI double that also saw Torie Shifflett cross home plate on a fielding error by UMW to tie the game at 3-3.

• Andrea Savage sealed the win for the Eagles in the sixth inning belting a massive two-run homer to centerfield putting the Eagles up 5-3. Erica Nelson closed things out for the Eagles in the circle with help from her fielders sealing the victory.

GAME STATS
• Fridley recorded an RBI for the Eagles going 1-for-3 at the plate.

• Shakir and Ward recorded RBIs for Mary Washington on one hit for both respective players.

• Samantha Stuart took the loss for Mary Washington recording two strikeouts on the day.

• Erica Nelson recorded her second win in the circle for the Eagles after not allowing a hit in 2.2 innings of relief and strikeout out one batter. Samantha Martin got the start for BC and went 4.1 innings with three Ks in the no decision.

Bridgewater is back on the road to take on Marymount in a doubleheader on March 15 with game one starting at 12 pm.
