BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The Bridgewater College baseball split a pair of games with Roanoke College on Sunday afternoon.

Final Score: Game 1: Bridgewater 6, Roanoke 5; Game 2: Roanoke 18, Bridgewater 3
Records: Bridgewater 13-21 (6-10 ODAC); Roanoke 21-11 (12-4 ODAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
• Bridgewater got on the board right away in the bottom of the first as Hunter Clever stepped in with two runners on. The senior connected for an infield single that allowed Brandan Hartman to score. A double from Jeffrey Snider during the next at bat pushed Collin Reid across to make it 2-0 for the home side after the first.

• Roanoke got on the board the very next inning with a leadoff homer, but starter Reid Long recovered and retired the next three Maroons in order to maintain the lead. The Eagles gave Long some more run support in the bottom of the fourth as a trio of singles loaded the bases with two outs. A wild pitch got to the back stop allowing Jonathan Sexton to score making it 3-1 in favor of Bridgewater.

• Roanoke responded immediately in the top of the fifth as three hits and three BC errors allowed for a pair of runs to cross tying the game 3-3. Roanoke kept the momentum rolling in the top of the sixth as the leadoff man got aboard for the Maroons followed by a long ball from Brody Langlotz to give the visitors the lead.

• The Eagles turned to Caleb Penner who held the visitors scoreless in the top of the seventh. Bridgewater went to work and closed the gap as Hartman flew out to deep right field allowing for Jarret Biesecker to tag and score, making it a one run game.

• Roanoke had chances to extend the lead in the ninth but failed to do so leaving the two sides separated by just a run. Biesecker led the frame off with a single to put the potential game-tying run aboard. Coach Ben Spotts elected to play small ball and had Brett Tharp square around to bunt. Tharp made contact and the Roanoke pitcher fielded the ball and tried to get the lead runner but airmailed the throw into center field allowing everyone to reach safely. Hartman dug in next and laid down a bunt as well. The pitcher fielded it once again but airmailed the throw to first allowing for Biesecker to come around and score to tie the game and put the go-ahead run on third. Roanoke elected to make a pitching change and it paid off initially as the Maroons got their first out of the frame, but Clever dug in and delivered with a single up the middle allowing Tharp to score and secure the victory.

GAME STATS
• Hartman extended his reaching base safely streak to 31 games in the game one win with a 1-for-3 effort and a run driven in.

• Nick Stavros, Biesecker, Clever and Snider all registered multiple hits in the victory.

• Tharp scored the game-winning run and picked up the win on the mound as he tossed a scoreless ninth frame. Penner tossed 2.0 scoreless frames in relief and Long hurled the opening 6.0 innings and struck out four.

• Game one featured many spectacular defensive plays from both sides including two nifty plays by Tharp at first base to keep the Eagles in the game.

• Jacob Bonzon had a good showing for Roanoke, tallying a 3-for-5 effort at the dish and scoring a run.

Game Two
• The Maroons hopped on the board early in the second game of the day as an infield-hit from Bonzon opened the second game of the twin bill. A single late in the frame brought the right fielder in to score making it 1-0 before BC got to the plate.

• Bridgewater responded in the bottom of the second as Collin Reid led the inning off with a single to right. A single by Clever and a sac bunt attempt gone awry allowed Snider to reach and loaded the bases. A wild pitch brought Reid in, tying the game. Later in that same at bat, Stavros singled allowing for Clever to score and give BC the lead. Kyle Carlson dug in next and flew out just deep enough to allow Snider to score and extend the advantage.

• The sides traded quick three-up three-down innings before the Roanoke offense exploded in the top of the fourth for four runs on five hits giving the Maroons a 5-3 lead. BC was retired in order in the following frame before Roanoke tagged on three more runs to make it 8-3.

• The Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but left the bases juiced. Roanoke took advantage of the scoreless frame and pushed across nine runs in the top of the sixth to make it 17-3.

• BC had chances down the stretch to try and scratch runs across but were unable to as the Eagles left three runners on base over the final innings.

GAME STATS
• Hartman pushed his streak to 32 games after drawing a walk. He is just two games shy of Kevin Navedo’s 34-game streak of reaching base safely from a season ago.

• Reid and Stavros each recorded two hits in game two.

• Bowe Rogers, Jared Peake and Jaden Isidro all recorded scoreless relief effort for the Eagles.

• Seven different Maroons recorded multi-hit efforts including a five-for-five effort for Langlotz.
