Greensboro, N.C. — The Bridgewater College baseball team split a pair of ODAC contests with Guilford on Sunday afternoon.

Final Score: Game 1: Guilford 6, Bridgewater 4; Game 2: Bridgewater 14, Guilford 2
Records: Bridgewater 14-23 (7-12 ODAC); Guilford 19-15-1 (8-10-1 ODAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
• Jarret Biesecker opened the game with a base knock but was put out on a fielder’s choice the next at bat allowing Brett Tharp to reach. Tharp move to second on the play after an arid throw to first. Brandan Hartman dug in next and reached safely on another GC error. The miscue allowed Tharp to round third and score giving BC an early 1-0 lead. BC had a chance to tag on another run in the second as Isaac Sumpter reached to open the frame, but the rookie was left stranded at third.

• Reid Long kept the Quakers off the base paths in the first two frames with six straight outs before a leadoff single got the home offense rolling. Another base knock and some small ball brought the game-tying tun in to score on a groundout. Another base rip allowed the Quakers to take a 2-1 advantage.

• A Jeffrey Snider double gave BC a chance to tie the game, but he was left stranded. Guilford extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run blast making it 4-1. Another two-run homerun pushed the Quaker lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth.

• The Eagles got the bats going in the top of the seventh with a pair of singles from Jonathan Sexton and Tim Hopson. Biesecker laid down a sacrifice bunt allowing the two runners to advance into scoring position before a Hartman double drove the pair on to close the game back to three.

• Bridgewater had two runners in scoring position again in the eighth and left both Snider and Sumpter stranded. Tharp doubled to open the top of the ninth and moved to third on a wild pitch. Hunter Clever reached on an error as Tharp came in and cut the lead to just two. The Quakers recovered and got the final two outs to secure the win.

GAME STATS
• Tharp, Hartman, Sumpter and Sexton all registered multi-hit efforts in game one.

• James Swart and Caleb Penner tossed scoreless relief effort to keep the Eagles within striking distance.

• Bridgewater left 11 runners on base compared to just three for the Quakers.

• Hartman moved his doubles total to 18 and extended his streak to 34 games straight where he has reached safely.

• Rylan Smith tallied a homerun and a double in the win for Guilford.

Game Two
• The Eagles waster no time in getting on the scoreboard in game two. Lucas Bauer singled with two runners on in the top of the first and was able to advance all the way to third by virtue of a throwing error allowing Biesecker and Hartman to score.

• Tharp extended the lead in the top of the third with a single that pushed Snider across making it 3-0. Three scoreless innings from Nick Harris to start the game helped preserve the lead. Sexton gave Harris run support in the top of the fourth as he launched a two-run homer to make it 5-0 in favor of the Eagles.

• Guilford got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as a solo shot opened the frame. The Eagles responded with a monster fifth inning with six runs on five hits. Nick Stavros and Brandan Hartman each racked up a two-RBI base knock while a bases-loaded walk to Tharp and a balk completed the coring and made it 11-1. BC added three more in the top of the sixth. Stavros stepped in with runners on and drove in Snider. Biesecker loaded the bases and Sexton scored during the next at bat as a Tharp infield single kept the bats rolling. Stavros finished the scoring in the sixth as he crossed the plate while the Quakers turned a double play, making it 14-1.

• The Quakers got back on the board in the seventh by virtue of an error. Both sides had chances to scratch across more runs but neither side was able to do so.

GAME STATS
• Hartman pushed his streak to 35 straight games for the longest reaching base safely streak in recent program history.

• Tharp and Stavros tallied three RBI in the win. Stavros also racked up a 3-for-4 effort at the dish

• Tanner Ray tossed 2.0 scoreless innings to close out the contest and struck out four of the nine batters he faced.

• Nine different Eagles tallied hits in the game-two victory.
