LEXINGTON, Va. — The Bridgewater College baseball picked up a 6-5 win over Washington and Lee on Tuesday evening.
Final Score: Bridgewater 6, Washington and Lee 5
Records: Bridgewater 11-14, 4-4 ODAC; Washington and Lee 12-9, 6-5 ODAC
HOW IT HAPPENED
• BC got on the board right away in the top of the first as Jarret Biesecker led the game off with a single to left-center field. Brandan Hartman pushed Biesecker around to third with a double down the line in left and Hunter Clever followed with a ground ball to short. Biesecker came around to score and Hartman scored as well as a miscue by the Generals allowed Clever to reach first safely. Collin Reid dug in next and extended the frame with a single to right that allowed Clever to score and give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
• Isaac Sumpter led the top of the second off with a single. A sacrifice bunt by Kyle Carlson moved Sumpter into scoring position and Brett Tharp drove the freshman home later in the frame with a base knock of his own. Now down 4-0, Washington and Lee looked to get on the board. A pair of singles did the trick for the Generals getting them in the score column before a pair of ground outs induced by Nick Griffin ended the frame.
• Bridgewater extended the lead in third frame as Clever singled and was driven in by a Jonathan Sexton double down the left-field line to make it 5-1 in favor of the visitors.
• Washington and Lee got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the fifth as a single and a bases-loaded walk made it 5-3 with BC still in front. Jeffrey Snider responded instantly in the top of the sixth as he led the frame off with a double and later scored to give the Eagles a 6-3 edge.
• The Generals slowly crept their way back in as they got a run back in the sixth to get back to within a pair of runs before a three up, three down frame from Tanner Ray in the seventh kept the Generals offense at bay. BC went to Brett Tharp in the eighth and it did not start the most ideal way as a single led off the inning putting the potential game-tying run at the plate. A sacrifice bunt allowed for the leadoff runner to advance to second base before a single brought the Generals to within a run. After the RBI base knock, Tharp retired the next five hitters he faced to close the game and give BC the victory.

• Four different Eagles recorded multiple-base knocks in the victory.
