HOW IT HAPPENED
• CNU got on the board in the bottom of the second. The Captains led off the inning with a single up the middle and followed that up with a fielder’s choice and another base knock to put the leadoff man on third with just one out. Sam Benedict poked a single through the left side to score Dan Elliot, breaking the scoring open.

• BC responded right away as Jarret Biesecker singled with one away in the top of the third inning. A single from Jeffrey Snider and a fielder’s choice pushed Biesecker to third. The fifth year took advantage of a wild pitch and came home to tie the game 1-1.

• Christopher Newport wasted no time, putting up a three spot in the bottom of the third, signaling the end of starting pitcher Mitchel Vedder’s day. Evan Gagne was able to come in and close the inning for the Eagles with CNU now in front 4-1.

• The home side added another run in the fourth frame off of a Jake Benedict base knock driving in Sam Benedict. The Captains were held scoreless in the fifth frame by Joe Christopher, but CNU drove in four runs in the sixth led by a two-run double from Jake Benedict.

• CNU added on to their lead in the seventh as a Josh Reinhold single with the bases loaded extended the lead for the home side. The Captains added two more in the eighth with a pair of RBI singles to add on soke insurance runs. Isaac Sumpter led off the top of the ninth with a single for Bridgewater, but he was caught up in a double play the very next at bat to help put the game away.
