RICHMOND, Va. — Retiring state senator Emmett Hanger will live on in the General Assembly, long after his final term ends early next month.
Hanger announced on social media this week that he was honored with a portrait commemorating his time as co-chair of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee during the McAuliffe and Northam administrations.
The Staunton Republican, who staffers called a “wise steward” of taxpayer dollars, is capping off a 27-year career in the statehouse.
His portrait will hang in the new General Assembly building, alongside other influential leaders in the history of the nation’s oldest governing body.
