VERONA. Va – (WSVA) After five months of deliberation, the Augusta County School Board has voted to adopt Governor Glenn Youngkin’s proposed model policies.
The seven-member board unanimously approved those policies during Thursday night’s meeting, which direct school staff to refer to students by their given, rather than chosen names, unless a parent says otherwise.
Staff will also address students with pronouns that match their biological sex.
Board member David Shiflett pointed out before the vote that the “adopted” guidelines are actually more of a continuation than an update.
However, he added that he thinks these policies best reflect Augusta County’s values.
