AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va – (WSVA) Augusta County authorities are investigating a shooting early FRIday morning that has landed two people in the hospital.
Deputies were dispatched at around 3:40 at a home on Hermitage Road and they arrived, deputies found a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound and he had to be airlifted of the U-V-A Medical Center.
Once inside the residence, Deputies located a second juvenile victim with a single gunshot wound to the leg. The second victim was transported to Augusta Health, then flown by Pegasus to UVA. Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad responded to the scene and provided initial care to both victims.
The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office initially detained Donte Harris, 21, for questioning in relation to the shooting incident. Mr. Harris has been released at this time.
“This is an isolated incident and there’s no threat to the community at this time,” said Sheriff Donald L. Smith.
More information will be released at a later date, as this investigation is ongoing at this time. Numerous charges are forthcoming in this case.
