VERONA VA: (WSVA) – Another burn ban is in effect in the central Valley, this time in Augusta County.
Back in September, the Board of Supervisors declared the county to be in a drought emergency, paving the way for possible restrictions if necessary. On Wednesday, the Board enacted a 60-day countywide burn ban effective as of five o’clock last night.
The resolution reads that because of a heightened risk of uncontrolled fire, Augusta County residents are barred from burning any wood, brush, logs, leaves or other flammable material outdoors until January 8th. Violators are subject to a Class 3 misdemeanor.
The ban does not apply to gas-powered grills and emergency roadside flares.
