RICHMOND VA: (WSVA) – Attorney General Jason Miyares is applauding a federal judge’s decision to side with college athletes as the war goes on over Name, Image and Likeness.
On Friday, a federal judge granted Miyares and Tennessee A-G Jonathan Skrmetti’s request for an injunction. It effectively blocks the N-C-A-A from penalizing a student athlete or a booster if they engage in N-I-L negotiations before that player formally signs on at a school.
The topic came up on ESPN Friday morning, when former N-B-A player Tim Legler agreed with others who say amateurism in college sports is dead.
In a release, Miyares said that students “should have the freedom and capability to negotiate and benefit from their skills.”
