CROZET, Va. — A former assistant principal near Charlottesville is out of a job and facing charges after police say he allowed a high school student to drive other students home while drunk.
Harold Hackney turned himself in to the Albemarle County Police Department on Tuesday following the incident on March 6th.
Albemarle County police said a school employee reported Hackney was aware a student at Western Albemarle High School appeared intoxicated, but did not prevent him from leaving campus. Two other students, also seemingly drunk, were with the student.
Hackney is charged with two counts of encouraging child delinquency.
The school system confirmed he is no longer an employee. Police said the students involved will not be charged.
