Hearts in Harrisonburg’s news and photography community are heavy this morning as we’ve learned of the passing of Allen Litten.

According to his obituary, the acclaimed local photographer died at his Harrisonburg home on Friday. He was 87.

Litten was a veteran – not only of the Army National Guard, but also of the news and public service sector. He was a multi-award-winning news photog during his more than 40 years with the Daily News-Record; he spent 20 years as an Auxiliary Officer with Harrisonburg Police, where they called him a “constant presence” at city events.

The family will receive visitors next Monday from 5 to 7 at Kyger Funeral Home.
