ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Shenandoah National Park will begin spraying operations earlier than originally planned.
According to an announcement from Shenandoah National Park on Friday, the spraying program will start on Monday, May 13 – two days earlier than originally reported due to unpredictable weather conditions in the area. The spraying operation, in conjunction with the US Forest Service, is to suppress nonnative spongy moth caterpillars along sections of Skyline Drive (miles 39 to 51) and in the Skyland and Big Meadows areas over the coming week.
As originally reported in April, spraying will occur during daylight hours and is expected to finish on May 17 at the earliest, or by May 21 at the latest. However, continued unpredictable weather conditions could change that estimated time window.
