Elkton Middle School was evacuated and students sent home this morning, following a bomb threat.  According to Rockingham County schools, a threat was called in to the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Operations Center at 8:15 a.m.  Students were moved to the Elkton Recreation Center and then transportated to East Rockingham High school, where parents could pick them up.

Police, along with a canine unit, searched the building but no threat was found, according to the school.

Principal Emily Holloway, in a statement released on social media, thanked emergency responders and others involved in the response. “We express our appreciation to law enforcement, Emergency Services, bus drivers, ERHS staff, and Central Office personnel for their assistance during this process. Lastly, we want to thank EMS parents for their patience and trust. These types of situations are always frightening and we appreciate you allowing us to work through all the steps to be sure everyone was safe and accounted for.
With this issue now resolved, we are happy to announce that Elkton Middle School will resume a normal schedule on Wednesday, February, 28, 2024. Again, thank you for your support and trust during this situation”.
