HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg man who was arrested last summer following a crash that left the Dayton area without power has reached a plea deal with prosecutors.
According to online records, Ricardo Miranda Bernardo pleaded guilty to five of the nine charges he faced during a hearing Monday morning in Rockingham County Circuit Court.
Among the charges he admitted to were felony eluding, brandishing a firearm and reckless handling of a firearm.
However, as part of the deal, prosecutors elected not to go after the most serious charge of attempted first-degree murder.
A judge then sentenced the 21-year-old Bernardo to 13 years in prison with 8 1/2 years of those suspended.
He was accused of firing multiple shots at individuals who were attending a July 4th gathering in the McGaheysville area.
After authorities spotted his vehicle, a chase ensued and ended in a crash on Main Street in Dayton.
