HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Anicira has received a $10,000 grant from SpayVA, a program of the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies (VFHS), to launch the Healthy Cats Access Project, a new initiative designed to expand access to affordable spay/neuter care for family cats and reduce the number of cats entering local shelters.
Through this program, Anicira will offer $20 spay/neuter surgeries for up to 200 family cats by appointment at its Harrisonburg and Manassas veterinary hospitals. Surgeries are available beginning Monday, March 30, through October 1, 2026, or until all grant funds are allocated. Eligible cats must live with families residing in Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, Manassas, Manassas Park, or Prince William County. Grant funding does not apply to feral or community cats.
The $20 surgery fee covers a pre-operative health evaluation, the procedure itself, and post-operative care. In addition, all cats assisted through the program will receive free core vaccines and microchipping.
“Anicira was founded on the belief that cost should never stand between a pet and the care they need and spay and neuter services remain at the heart of that mission,” said Mary Golden-Hughes, Director of Advancement at Anicira in a release. “This generous grant from SpayVA and VFHS allows us to extend that commitment to family cats across our communities — helping families care for the pets they love, improving family cats’ overhealth, while also reducing overpopulation and the number of cats entering local shelters.”
