CRAIGSVILLE, Va. — Last night’s severe weather led to a scary scene near the Craigsville region of Augusta County as conditions were just right for a tornado to form.

While we haven’t seen or heard reports of a twister touching down, swirling, gale-force winds felled several trees – with some crashing down into buildings.

The 60-plus-mile-per-hour wind was a problem in northern Rockingham County as well, with at least one metal roof peeling off of a structure during the squall.

Palm-to-baseball-sized hail also made for a dangerous evening in some areas.

WSVA has not learned of any deaths or injuries due to the storm, although power remains out for thousands of homes in Shenandoah County.
