HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The United Way of Central Shenandoah Valley (UWCSV) announced that they were one out of 21 coalitions in Virginia that was awarded the Virginia Community Action Partnership Virginia CASH Campaign grant to provide free income tax preparation services under the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The Virginia Community Action Partnership (VACAP) awarded the United Way of Central Shenandoah Valley $18,000 out of $485,725.

“On behalf of our staff and volunteers working with the VITA program, we are pleased to accept this $18,000 grant award” said Amanda Leech, President and CEO of United Way of Central Shenandoah
Valley in a release. “Being one of the grantees from across the Commonwealth enables us to impact the lives of individuals and families as we continue to build our VITA work for tax-filing season.”

According to United Way of Central Shenandoah Valley Director of Programs Nadina Pupic, the organization aims to help households with a combined income of $68,000 or less file 300 tax returns at
three to-be-determined sites located in Harrisonburg, Waynesboro and Staunton this tax season. With an
average professional filing cost of $200 for a simple return, UWCSV expects to save working households
nearly $60,000.
