HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – Villanova connected on 28-of-57 (.491) from the field and 12-of-29 (.414) from three to propel past James Madison, 84-73, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference women’s basketball action inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center.

The Wildcats (3-2) recorded 20 assists on their 28 field goals, and sank 15-of-18 (.833) from the free throw line in the fourth. JMU (3-2) totaled 48 points in the paint, however, its 14 turnovers resulted in 23 points for Villanova.

Peyton McDaniel finished with a double-double of 23 points and a season-high 14 rebounds, scoring 12 points in the final period. Her rebounding effort places her 10th in program history with 799 boards, passing Nadine Morgan (1999-2003), who tallied 793 in her career. Bree Robinson produced a career-high 22 points on 9-of-16 (.563) and came away with four steals. Additionally, McDaniel moved up the program’s scoring ladder, rising to seventh with 1,766, now ahead of Meredith Alexis (2003-07), who totaled 1,760.

Zakiya Stephenson recorded eight points and a pair of steals, while Ashanti Barnes chipped in with eight boards and seven points. Delilah Soltys dished out a team-best three assists off the bench.

Five Villanova players scored in double figures, led by Brynn McCurry with 18, followed by Jasmine Bascoe (17), Ryanne Allen (14), Kennedy Henry (11) and Kelsey Joens (10). McCurry also tallied a game-high seven assists and two steals.

First Quarter – Villanova 21, JMU 20
• The Dukes shot 7-of-16 (.438) from the field, with Robinson producing six points in the opening period.
• Bascoe led the Wildcats with nine points on 4-of-10 (.400) from the floor.

Second Quarter – Villanova 37, JMU 35
• Joens set the tone in the second with 10 points on 4-of-5 (.800) from the field with three rebounds.
• Villanova hit 5-of-6 to go ahead 33-25 and force a JMU timeout at the 4:41 mark.

Third Quarter – Villanova 61, JMU 51
• After McDaniel tied the game at 37-37 in the opening minute of the third, the Wildcats went on a 18-3 run for a 55-40 advantage at the midpoint of the period.
• Villanova produced assists on seven out of nine baskets, going 9-of-15 (.600) in the frame.
• Bascoe knocked down a three at the buzzer to give the Wildcats a 10-point lead heading into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter – Villanova 84, JMU 73
• JMU held Villanova to 3-of-8 (.375) from the field, but the Wildcats managed to knock down 15-of-18 (.833) from the line to hold on for the 84-73 victory.

Game Notes
• Villanova held an advantage in points off turnovers (23-15) and bench points (20-11).
• The Dukes saw two players score 20-plus points (McDaniel – 23, Robinson – 22) in regulation for the first time since the Dukes beat Gardner-Webb last season on Nov. 17, with McDaniel (25) and Ro Scott (22) leading the way.
• Robinson has come away with four or more steals six times in her career, including five times in this season.
• Villanova is the first team to have five or more players score in double figures for a women’s basketball game at the Atlantic Union Bank Center (2020-Pres.).
