ORLANDO, Fla. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison men’s soccer was unable to overcome a hat trick from UCF’s Lilian Ricol, as it fell, 3-2, on Wednesday night in Sun Belt Conference action at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex.
The Dukes fell to 1-9-3 (0-4-1 Sun Belt) while the Knights improved to 6-5-2 (3-2-1 Sun Belt).
JMU netted goals from redshirt junior Cameron Arnold and junior Florentino Junior, with the latter’s goal being the first of his career. Sophomore Erik Jaspers made six saves in goal as he played all 90 minutes.
How It Happened
• Jaspers made a phenomenal save in the sixth minute on the first chance from either team to keep the match scoreless.
• UCF netted the first goal of the match, as Ricol found the back of the net in the 11th minute.
• In the 18th minute, the Knights went up 2-0 after a review confirmed there was no offside.
• The Dukes got a goal back in the 28th minute, when Junior beat a Knight to the ball, made two dribbles and then fired a shot that found the top corner of the goal.
• Ricol secured the hat trick and pushed the lead back to multiple goals after scoring in the 49th minute to make it 3-1.
• JMU was awarded a corner kick in the 84th minute that sophomore Manuel Lolas took. The ball landed off a rebound in front of Arnold who fired it into the back of the net to bring the score to 3-2.
