Looking for a turkey for Thanksgiving that’s more than just grocery-store typical? Sunrise Farms is now taking orders for their free-range turkeys, raised with care and processed locally in the current season. Here’s what you need to know to get one on your table this fall.

What They’re Offering

  • Free-Range Turkeys — All the turkeys are raised outdoors, under free-range conditions. They’ve been grown and processed during the summer and fall of this year.
  • Choices for Your Turkey
    • Size: Small (10–14 lbs.), Medium (15–19 lbs.), or Large (20+ lbs.) with the note that while they strive to meet your size request, exact weight can’t always be guaranteed.
    • Processing Options:
      1. Frozen (raised fresh this season) — $4.79 per lb.
      2. Frozen & Defrosted — $4.79 per lb + a $10 defrosting fee.
      3. Fresh, Never Frozen — $5.39 per lb.
  • Pick-Up Dates
You can pick up your turkey from 8am–5pm on several dates. Options include:
    • Early pickup (before November 22) — let them know what day in the “notes.”
    • Saturday, November 22
    • Monday, November 24
    • Tuesday, November 25
    • Wednesday, November 26
  • Reservation Requirement
To reserve a turkey, a non-refundable $30 down-payment is required. Your order is not reserved until this deposit is paid.

Why It’s Worth It

  • These turkeys are free-range and raised fresh in the current season, which tends to mean better flavor and texture.
  • The “fresh, never frozen” option preserves peak quality if you’re planning to cook relatively soon after pickup.
  • Sunrise Farms gives you flexibility in how you want your bird: frozen, fresh, or ready to defrost. That’s helpful depending on your schedule and kitchen prep.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Because size is approximate, you might end up slightly above or below what you ordered. If you want more certainty in weight, it might help to aim a little higher than your minimum need.
  • The “fresh, never frozen” turkey is more expensive and might require you to use it soon; plan accordingly.
  • Pick up timing is important. If you pick a date early enough, you’ll have time to thaw (if needed) or cook fresh. Ice-down if needed.
  • Reservation fee is non-refundable, so make sure your order details are correctly filled.
