HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — UPDATE: The Arts Council of the Valley has moved the Inaugural Chalk Festival to Sunday, June 15, at Turner Pavillion due to forecasted severe weather.
The Arts Council of the Valley is sponsoring art activities on Saturday, June 14, in honor of Harrisonburg’s “Best. Weekend. Ever.” events.
The non-profit will also be celebrating its 25th anniversary.
The ACV is kicking off events on Friday with Jennifer Chaparro, a renowned street artist. Chaparro is hosting a 3D chalk painting workshop from 3:00pm until 5:30pm at the Turner Pavilion in downtown Harrisonburg.
Events for Saturday include:
- 12:00pm until 5:00pm: Opportunities for artists to create their own chalk masterpieces; a community chalk mosaic coloring space; and large-scale feature drawings by experienced street painters Jennifer Chaparro and Robert Mott.
- 12:00pm until 5:00pm: Smith House Galleries exhibitions: Liminal by Keith G. Mills and Seconds Between Time by Peter Schnibbe; with artist conversations from 2:00pm until 3:00pm.
- 12:00pm until 6:00pm: VMFA on the Road: An Artmobile for the 21st Century features a free exhibition, Love, Laughter, Tears: An Artist’s Guide to Emotions. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Artmobile is located just behind Smith House Galleries.
- 1:00pm until 2:00pm: Reggae on the Smith House front porch, featuring iRon Lion.
- 2:00pm until 5:00pm: JMU ArtsMobile, located at the corner of Franklin and Main Street, shares framed images of selected works from the Fall 2022 Savoring the Moon: Japanese Prints of the Floating World exhibition in the Lisanby Museum.
