ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – Rockingham County Public Schools has announced the second annual “Adulting 101: Life Skills for Seniors” event, a unique program designed to equip graduating students with essential skills for life beyond high school. This initiative, developed in collaboration with local agencies and community partners, will take place at each of the four high schools on the following dates:

● East Rockingham High School – February 6, 2025
● Spotswood High School – February 11, 2025
● Turner Ashby High School – February 13, 2025
Adulting 101 brings together experts from various industries to deliver practical and interactive workshops on topics such as fire prevention and management, emergency first aid, personal safety, understanding laws in Virginia, financial literacy, tenant and rental education, automobile maintenance, mental health resources, and healthcare management. Partners include representatives from the Rockingham County Department of Fire & Rescue, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, United Bank, Harrisonburg Rockingham Services Board, Sentara RMH Medical Center, Matchbox Realty, and Rockingham County Central Garage.
“Our goal with ‘Adulting 101’ is to ensure that our seniors feel confident and prepared as they transition into adulthood,” said Dr. Larry Shifflett, Division Superintendent of RCPS. “This program is not only an investment in their future but also a reflection of our commitment to supporting our students beyond the classroom.”
Students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on learning sessions, ask questions, and take home valuable resources, including a comprehensive guide curated by RCPS and community experts. Topics will include personal and fire safety, basic financial management, car maintenance, and navigating housing and employment opportunities.
The community-driven event is designed to celebrate and empower the senior class while preparing them for the next chapter in their lives.
