The Fort Defiance Volleyball team is headed to the Class 2 State Championship match after winning a five-set thriller (24-26, 25-16, 21-25, 25-20, 15-11) at Clarke County on Tuesday night in the VHSL State Semifinals.

Fort lost to the Clarke last week in the Region 2B championship match in three sets at home to stop the Indians’ 23-match winning streak.

Fort Defiance will make its first appearance in the state championship since 1995, when the Indians won their fourth state title in program history.

Fort will play either Ridgeview or James River on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. in Salem. Those two teams play Wednesday night in the other Class 2 semifinal.
