FOREST, Va. (BC Athletics) – Aaron Oates of the Bridgewater College men’s basketball team has been named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Oates anchored the Eagles to a 1-2 week on both sides of the basketball as he averaged 19.3 points per game, but it was his efforts on the glass that stood out. Oates grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds in Sunday’s win over Greensboro and averaged 8.3 boards per game while also recording at least a steal in all three games.
Sunday afternoon also saw Oates grab his 500th career rebounds in the victory, becoming the second Eagle in as many seasons to cross the benchmark. The senior from Jacksonville, N.C. is averaging 8.4 rebounds per game through BC’s opening five contests, good enough for sixth in the ODAC. Oates’ 42 total boards leads the conference and ranks 12th nationally. The senior is the only player in the ODAC with multiple double-doubles this season as well.
The Eagles have nine days off before returning to the hardwood at home as Mary Baldwin visits in the back-half of a BC Basketball Doubleheader on Tuesday Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
