AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – One of the casualties of the Staunton Mall closing nearly four years ago was the displacement of the Augusta County Railroad Museum.
After several years of searching, the Museum has found a new home in downtown Waynesboro and will reopen Thanksgiving weekend. Vice president of the museum David Colton explains that the organization raised enough money to purchase a 5,000 square foot building on West Main Street and recently put a down payment on it.
“It’s right in the heart of downtown Waynesboro,” Colton said. “The first floor is completely finished and approved for occupancy, and that’s where we’ll be setting up the museum. And then, as we raise money, we should be able to refinish the lower level and then open that up to the public, maybe in another year or two.”
The museum will be open the Friday afternoon after Thanksgiving from 1 to 5 p.m. Then, they will be open every weekend throughout the holidays.
Admission is free.
