LYNCHBURG, Va. (BC Athletics) – The No. 7 seeded Bridgewater College women’s soccer team fell short to No. 2 seeded Lynchburg in the ODAC quarterfinals on the road at Shellenberger Field Tuesday night.

Score: Lynchburg (LYN) 1, Bridgewater (BCE) 0
Records: LYN (12-4-3, 8-1-2), BCE (7-7-5, 4-3-3)

How It Happened
• Although the first half got off to a fast start for the Hornets, Bridgewater stayed close throughout the entire match after the opening point by LYN. With three minutes into the match, the Hornets would strike first as LYN’s Leillianis Irigoyen got a piece of one in the box to send it left-side top shelf.
• As the Eagles began to settle in, the forwards pressed up tightly and spaced out for potential through-balls. The first shot came 18 minutes into the first half for BCE as Skyler Daum targeted bottom-center; however, LYN’s goalkeeper handled the shot cleanly. The first yellow card charged to the Hornets would ignite the Eagles to get off two more shots on target, but both were kept out.
• The Eagles were forcing right side as the attacking duo in Daum and Lyric Birkley caused two corner kicks back-to-back to start out the second half. Both were unsuccessful, but BCE kept fighting and pushing down field.
• A close chance off another corner kick would ensue as Kendall Garza lasered a shot, but would not get enough of the ball to have any serious threat for the goalie. LYN would keep the shutout and finish with a final score of 1-0.

Match Notes
• Bridgewater outshot Lynchburg by one with eight and three on target.
• The Eagles forced seven corner kicks to four for the Hornets. Five of the corners for BCE came in the second half.
• Graduate student Skyler Daum finished with the team-high two shots on target.
• Freshman Rylee Asiello denied three shots on target in goal.

The Eagles conclude the season with an overall record of 7-7-5 and a conference record of 4-3-3.
