AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank has announced sponsorship of the At-Risk Afterschool Meals Program, which provides meals at no charge to participants at multiple sites across Staunton and Waynesboro.
Les Sinclair, the Food Bank’s spokesperson, explained that this program is part of a larger federal initiative called the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
“This particular program is really centered specifically on the Boys and Girls Club,” Sinclair said. “So all of those kids will get either after school meals, which is really a great program for those kids, which means that their parents don’t have to worry so much about providing an after a meal for them when they get home, because a lot of them are doing sports and that sort of thing. And then on some of the days and or all of the days, they get a snack as well.”
