HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison cross country has unveiled its 2024 schedule, as announced by Head Coach Rebekah Ricksecker on July 31.
The Dukes open their schedule at Richmond’s Spider Alumni Open (Aug. 31), for the fourth year in a row. The team closes the month of September in Rock Hill, S.C. for the Adidas Winthrop Invitational on the 28th.
From there, the Dukes head to Bethlehem, Pa. on Oct. 5 for the historic Paul Short Run. After a break, JMU treks to Wisconsin’s Pre-National meet on the Zimmer Championship Course in Verona, Wis. on Oct. 19.
The team will then prepare for the Sun Belt Conference Championship meet, scheduled for Nov. 1. The 5K title race takes place in Foley, Ala. at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve. Following the league showdown, the Dukes return to the commonwealth for Virginia Tech’s Hokie Open on Nov. 8 before heading back to Rock Hill, S.C. for the NCAA Southeast Regional at the Winthrop University Recreation Complex on Nov. 15.
In order to qualify as a team for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, JMU must finish in the top two at the regional race or earn a spot as one of the 13 at-large teams. For individuals, they must be one of the first four finishers who do not belong to an automatic qualifier or an at-large team. Additionally, all four finishers must finish in the top 25 within their region.
