WAYNESBORO, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Wildlife Center of Virginia released an injured bald eagle back into the wild last week.
The injured animal was found in Newport News and after four months of treatment at the Waynesboro facility, officials released the eagle last Friday.
Officials with the Wildlife Center of Virginia stated that the eagle had high levels of lead in its system, which likely hindered its ability to fly.
About three out of every four bald eagles they see have some level of lead in their system.
They added that hunters and fishermen can help decrease the amount of lead found in wildlife by using non-lead ammunition and tackle.
