GREENSBORO, N.C. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison sophomore Wyatt Peifer was named to the 2024 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Gold Glove team, the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings Sporting Goods announced Wednesday afternoon.
Peifer becomes the first JMU player to win a Gold Glove award, earning the third base spot on the team. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007 and are presented annually to the top defensive players from each division of collegiate and high school baseball.
The Greentown, Pa. native recorded a fielding percentage of .964, committing just seven errors in 194 chances while finishing second on the team in assists with 138. He helped turn 21 of the 59 JMU double plays this season, with the total marking the most double plays turned since 2002. As a team, the Dukes finished with a .972 fielding percentage that ranks tied for the second highest in program history.
According to 6-4-3 Charts as of June 5, Peifer had 15.08 defensive runs saved which is the third highest in the country. He ranks as the top third baseman in DRS and the top infielder as well.
