NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – Brendan O’Donnell was tabbed the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after completing a weekend cycle and leading James Madison baseball to a series win, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
O’Donnell helped the Dukes improve to 30-20 (15-12 Sun Belt) over the weekend, marking the first time the Dukes have posted back-to-back 30-win seasons and 15-league-win seasons since 2010-11.
The Malvern, Pa. native hit .667 over the three games and recorded an eye-popping 2.084 OPS. He went 8-for-12 with five of his eight hits going for extra bases behind two doubles, two triples and a home run. He began and ended the weekend with three-hit games and sandwiched a two-hit game in the middle game, raising his batting average this season to .307. In the opener, all three of his base hits went for extra bases, recording his 14th home run of the season with a pair of triples. He then hit a double in back-to-back games to close out the series.
He is one of five hitters to be in the top five in the league for both doubles and home runs this season, as he now leads the team with 17 doubles and is second on the team in home runs.
